Watercolour Workshops in Hertfordshire

Watercolour painting in nature can be a wonderful way to connect with the natural world and tap into your creativity. Our glamping meadow is nestled into Hertfordshire’s greenbelt: a country idyll for urban-dwellers seeking experiences that bridge wellbeing with wildlife and a lovely location for a spot of painting.

For the team at Home Farm Glamping, we’re all about supporting the local community and celebrating the talent we have on our doorstep.

We were delighted to meet Kate Rebecca Leach, an artist and illustrator based in Bushey (just down the road from us!). Her original artwork and giclée prints feature beautiful watercolor techniques with metallic details.

Kate is the founder of Essoldo Design, set up in August 2020, she has sold pieces to over 26 countries across the globe, successfully licensed her work in the UK, Europe and the USA and is currently writing her first book.

Meet your tutor, Kate

Having gained a degree in textile design and surface pattern, life seemed to take Kate away from her art and launched her into a career in marketing. For many years any creativity was reserved for cake making and the odd craft project.

Things changed during the monotony of lockdown 2020 when Kate decided to while away her weekends by picking up a paintbrush. Instantly her passion was reignited and she was soon creating custom artwork for friends and family. As commissions through her Instagram, which now has over 100,000 followers, built momentum and Essoldo Design was born!

Kate is inspired by nature, from flowers and greenery to gemstones and jewels. With over 150 acres of private land on the Aldenham Estate, where Home Farm Glamping sits, her watercolour workshops will take inspiration from the surroundings which will vary from season to season.

Why join us at Home Farm Glamping?

Here are a few benefits of this type of art:

  1. Inspiration: Being surrounded by the beauty of nature can be incredibly inspiring for artists. Watercolor painting in nature allows you to capture the colors, textures, and emotions that nature evokes in a unique and personal way.

  2. Relaxation: Painting in nature can be a meditative and relaxing experience. This is certainly what Kate Finds, Kate is at her happiest while painting in her studio, listening to an audiobook and occasionally dipping her paintbrush absentmindedly into her cup of (builders) tea! The sound of birds singing, the breeze blowing through the trees, and the gentle movement of the water can all help to reduce stress and promote a sense of calm.

  3. Learning: Painting in nature can also be a great way to learn more about the natural world. Artists can observe and study the plants, animals, and landscapes they are painting, which can deepen their understanding and appreciation of nature. We have some unique and rare wildlife on the Aldenham Estate, such as ground-roosting birds and rare species of trees.

  4. Flexibility: Watercolor painting is a versatile medium that can be used in a variety of outdoor environments. Whether you are painting in a park, by a river, or on a beach, you can create beautiful and unique artwork. You will leave our workshops with a full materials list to allow you to continue your art practice at home as well as the work you created on the day.

  5. Fresh perspective: Painting in nature can also give you a fresh perspective on your artwork. Being outside of your usual environment can help you to see things in a new light, which can lead to new ideas and inspiration.
