Glamping Essentials: What To Take Glamping

So, you’ve booked a stay with us at Home Farm and you’re getting ready to hop in your car, get out into the countryside and switch off for a few days. For so many of our lovely guests, though, glamping is a completely new experience, so we’re going to help you figure out those glamping essentials to pack in your overnight bag and also what you can leave at home for your trip out into our meadow. Most of the items apply to any glamping trip. However, if you are visiting another glamping site, it’s always best to check what they provide as every site is different!

Bell Tent Glamping

Let’s dive straight into our top glamping essentials with a list of glamping must-haves for you to tick off before you come to Home Farm.

Our Glamping Must-Have Checklist:

  • Towels: you will need to bring your own or you can also order these from us if you prefer to travel light (£4 each). There is shower gel, soap, hand towels and toilet paper in our bathrooms.

  • Eye mask: for those light mornings!

  • Ear plugs: in case you’re a light sleeper

  • Wet wipes: great for keeping hands clean

  • Warm socks: even in the summer, the evenings can get cold!

  • Portable power bank: we have plug sockets in the barn but you might want to charge your phone overnight in the tent

  • Torch: essential for when it’s dark and you need to nip to the loo

  • Plastic bags: we have a rubbish bin in every tent but you might need these for wet / dirty clothes or muddy boots

  • Food for the BBQ!

Now let’s get into the nitty-gritty, and what other items you might want to consider when glamping with us, and also a reminder of what we provide. You can also check our FAQs for a full list of what’s included in your stay at Home Farm.

What clothes to take when glamping

Pack layers

As much as we wish we could control the weather, unfortunately we haven’t figured that one out yet… and we live in Britain. So, you know the drill: check the forecast, be prepared to pack for all possibilities and bring layers. It can get cold - even in the summer - so remember to bring warmer layers, PJs and socks.

Waterproofs and wellies

Hopefully, Mother Nature is kind to you and you’re able to sit out in the sun and explore our site in your sandals, rather than your wellies. However, just to be on the safe side, you might want to bring some wellies and other waterproof clothing, especially if you’re going to explore the area.

Flip flops or Slip-on Shoes & Eyemasks

Remember to bring some shoes that you can easily slip on and off, which are really useful for going in and out of your tent, especially at night. If you’re a light sleeper and sensitive to light or noise, then it might be wise to bring along some earplugs and an eye mask too. In fact, an eye mask for the mornings is a must-have if you don’t want to wake up too early!

Sleeping Essentials and Toiletries

Glamping with us means you can leave that sleeping bag at home! At Home Farm, all our tents and yurts are set up with the comfiest bedding and blankets out there to make sure your sleep under the stars is as comfortable and warm as possible. You therefore won’t need to bring any duvets, sheets or blankets.

Towels

At Home Farm we’ve got six private showers, so make sure to bring towels and toiletries so you can start your day feeling fresh. You can order towels when booking your stay if you would prefer us to provide them. As we get deeper into the summer, bite spray might be a sensible addition to your suitcase too.

Travel cot

If you are coming with a little one, please bring a travel cot as we don’t provide these. We’ll make up beds for any other members of your family.

What food to take glamping

BBQ Glamping Essentials

If the sun is shining, then there’s no doubt you’ll want to light up the Weber BBQ outside your bell tent or yurt. We provide one bucket of coal and firelighters for you, and cooking utensils can be found in our barn. Make sure to bring along your own food to throw on the grill and enjoy out in the summery meadow.

On Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays you can order a gourmet BBQ Box from our partners at Gregory’s Kitchen, stuffed full of delicious local meats and fresh salads (they just need to be ordered one week in advance).

Make sure you know how to use the BBQ

By the way, if you’ve never used a Weber (or any other type!) of BBQ before, make sure you watch some instructions beforehand. It’s the last thing you want to be doing when you want to enjoy the evening and you’ve got hungry mouths to feed. And you might want to take some extra firelighters in case you need to relight the coals.

Fear not if it doesn’t go to plan though! You can always cook your food in our communal kitchen, order a takeaway pizza or head to a local pub.

Communal kitchen

If the weather isn’t on your side, you can always cook in our communal kitchen in the barn, where we also have fridges and boxes to store your food. We have a fully stocked washing up station but just remember to pack some tupperware to take home any of those delicious leftovers. Feel free to bring along some snacks, but if you’re looking to toast some marshmallows at one of our fire pits after the sun has set, we’ll provide them for you.

Drinking water & alcohol

All of the water on our site is suitable for drinking, so make sure to bring a reusable water bottle. You are also more than welcome to bring along wine, beer, gin or a bottle of whatever your tipple might be! You can keep them cool in the communal kitchen fridges, but you might to bring a cool box so they’re within reach.

Utensils & Cleaning

You get a hamper containing mugs, glasses, plates, cutlery, a bottle opener and matches, so no need to bring these unless you want to drink from fancier glasses. We also have a communal washing up area with washing up liquid, sponges and scourers.

Marshmallows

The most important part of a great glamping trip! Grown-ups and kids alike love roasting marshmallows over the BBQ or communal fire pit, and you could even make them into s’mores (so don’t forget the biscuits). There’s a jar of marshmallows in your hamper, so these are on us.

Breakfast

If you want an easy breakfast, you can order overnight oats from us when booking your stay. These are super simple - just add milk and let them soak overnight. Remember to bring a container to soak them in.

However, if you really fancy a fry up, why not pop to The Aerodrome Cafe which is only a 10 minute walk down the road.

Glamping Entertainment Essentials

Ball & board games

A trip out to the fields is a great time to get the family together for a run around and for some games. We’ve got you covered with football, cricket and table-tennis, as well as some board games but perhaps you want to bring along a specific favourite of yours too.

Read a book

Our meadow is also a delightful place to sit down for a nice peaceful read, so make sure you’ve packed your book.

Music

Once it's gotten dark, you’ll want to spend the evening winding down in our lovely barn and you can bring along a small portable speaker to play some tunes while you do.

Other essentials

When you need to find your way back to your bell tent or yurt to couch down for the night, a torch could certainly come in handy. And whilst there are plug points in our barn, we also recommend bringing a portable power-bank if you want to charge up your phone or other devices overnight.

Ultimately, glamping means we do a lot of the work for you, so you can leave plenty of those things from your regular camping trip at home. It's time to switch off, have fun and reset. If you’ve got any questions about what you may or may not need to bring with you before your stay with us, you can check the FAQs on our website or get in touch with our team at info@homefarmglamping.com
